Ingredients
For the Carne Asada:
1 ½ lbs flank steak or skirt steak
3 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup fresh lime juice
¼ cup orange juice
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
½ tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
For the Tacos:
Corn tortillas (8-10)
½ cup diced white onion
½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
Lime wedges, for serving
Optional toppings: salsa, guacamole, or hot sauce
Instructions
1. Prepare the Marinade:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the garlic, lime juice, orange juice, olive oil, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
2. Marinate the Steak:
Place the steak in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it’s well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 4-6 hours for maximum flavor.
3. Grill the Steak:
Preheat a grill or grill pan over high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and pat dry with paper towels. Grill the steak for 3-5 minutes per side, depending on your preferred doneness. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.
4. Warm the Tortillas:
Heat the corn tortillas on the grill or in a dry skillet until they’re warm and slightly charred.
5. Assemble the Tacos:
Place a few slices of carne asada in each tortilla. Top with diced onion, chopped cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Add your favorite optional toppings if desired.
6. Serve and Enjoy:
Serve immediately while warm, accompanied by extra lime wedges for squeezing.
