Southern Fried Salmon Patties

These classic Southern-style salmon patties are crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. They make for a quick, satisfying meal with minimal ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 (14 3/4 ounce) can salmon, drained
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Salmon Mixture

  1. Open the canned salmon and drain thoroughly.
  2. Place the drained salmon into a mixing bowl and flake it with a fork.

Step 2: Combine Ingredients

  1. Add the chopped onion, cornmeal, flour, mayonnaise, and egg to the salmon.
  2. Mix until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture holds together.

Step 3: Form the Patties

  1. Shape the mixture into patties, about the size of a standard burger or slightly smaller, depending on preference.

Step 4: Fry the Patties

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
  2. Place the patties in the hot oil and cook until golden brown on one side (about 3–4 minutes).
  3. Carefully flip the patties and cook the other side until browned and cooked through.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  2. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce, a squeeze of lemon, or over a bed of greens.

Pro Tip:

The mayonnaise in the mixture helps keep the patties moist and ensures they hold their shape while frying. For a flavor twist, try adding a pinch of cayenne or some chopped fresh parsley.

Enjoy this comforting Southern dish with sides like cornbread, coleslaw, or a refreshing cucumber salad!
