Outback Steakhouse Chicken

This recipe recreates the popular Outback Steakhouse chicken dish at home. Tender chicken breasts are topped with mushrooms, crispy bacon, and melted Colby Jack cheese, and served with a creamy honey mustard sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

  • For the Chicken:
    • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
    • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
    • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
    • 1/2 teaspoon McCormick Season All seasoning
    • 3 cups shredded Colby Jack cheese
    • 6 bacon strips, fried until crisp and halved
    • Cooking oil, as needed
  • For the Sauce:
    • 1/2 cup prepared mustard
    • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
    • 1/4 cup honey
    • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Chicken
Rub the Season All seasoning evenly over the chicken breasts. Place them in the refrigerator and let marinate for 1 hour.

Step 2: Prepare the Bacon
While the chicken is marinating, fry the bacon strips until crisp. Remove from the pan and set on a paper towel to drain, discarding the bacon grease.

Step 3: Cook the Chicken
Heat a small amount of oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Pan fry the chicken breasts until just cooked through and lightly golden on each side.

Step 4: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 5: Assemble and Bake
Place the chicken breasts in an oven-safe dish. Top each breast with sliced mushrooms, bacon halves, and enough shredded cheese to cover completely. Transfer the dish to the oven and bake for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 6: Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together the mustard, corn syrup, honey, and mayonnaise until smooth. This will be your honey mustard dipping sauce.

Step 7: Serve
Remove the chicken from the oven, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve with the honey mustard sauce on the side. Enjoy!

Tips

  • If you prefer a milder sauce, reduce the mustard or add a touch more honey for sweetness.
  • Serve alongside steamed vegetables or a baked potato for a complete meal.
