Good Ole Fashion Mac and Cheese

This baked Old Fashioned Macaroni and Cheese recipe is a comforting, creamy classic that brings back all the nostalgia of childhood meals. With a rich cheese filling and a slightly crispy top, this dish is the ultimate comfort food!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups dry elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 (370 mL/12 oz) cans evaporated milk
  • 1/3 cup milk of your choice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 4 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Macaroni

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add salt and macaroni.
  2. Cook until the pasta is al dente (about 7-9 minutes). Drain and return the macaroni to the pot.
  3. Stir in the butter until melted, and set the macaroni aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Milk Mixture

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the evaporated milk, regular milk, eggs, and garlic salt until well combined.

Step 3: Assemble the Mac and Cheese

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
  3. Layer 1/3 of the cooked macaroni in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Top with 1/3 of the shredded cheese mixture. Repeat with the remaining macaroni and cheese.

Step 4: Add the Milk Mixture

  1. Pour the milk and egg mixture evenly over the pasta and cheese layers.
  2. Sprinkle paprika on top for color and a bit of flavor.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
