Mama’s Cornbread Dressing

Ingredients

  • 3 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • ½ cup celery, chopped
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage, or more to taste
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Dish:
    Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 7×11-inch baking dish. Place the crumbled cornbread in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Sauté Vegetables:
    Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and chopped celery, and sauté for 5–7 minutes until soft.
  3. Combine Ingredients:
    Add the sautéed onion and celery to the cornbread. Stir in the chicken stock, beaten eggs, sage, salt, and pepper until thoroughly combined.
  4. Bake the Dressing:
    Pour the dressing mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the edges just begin to turn golden brown.
