Fried Cabbage with Bacon Onion and Garlic

A family favorite with vibrant colors and a rich, smoky flavor, this fried cabbage dish is so addictive it’s a must in every family cookbook. Perfect for special occasions or weeknight dinners!

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 large head cabbage, cored and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Cook the Bacon:
    In a large stockpot over medium-high heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy, about 10 minutes.
  2. Sauté Onion and Garlic:
    Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot with the bacon. Cook and stir for about 10 minutes until the onion caramelizes.
  3. Add Cabbage and Seasonings:
    Immediately stir in the sliced cabbage, cooking and stirring for another 10 minutes until it begins to soften. Season with salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika.
  4. Simmer:
    Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the cabbage simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes, until tender.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:
    This dish serves 6 and can be stored covered with aluminum foil to keep leftovers fresh and cleanup easy.
