Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 1 large apple (Fuji or any tart variety works best)
  • 1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup (6 oz) 7-Up or similar soda (about half a can)

How to Make Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Apples: Cut the apple into 8-10 wedges and peel off the skin. Set the wedges aside.
  3. Wrap the Apples: Separate the crescent roll dough into individual triangles. Roll each apple wedge in the dough, starting at the wider end. Pinch the dough to seal it around the apple and place the wrapped wedges in the baking dish. (Tip: Pat the apple wedges dry before wrapping for easier handling.)
  4. Make the Cinnamon Sauce: Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the sugar and cinnamon, whisking until the mixture combines and thickens. Once thickened, remove from heat and add the vanilla.
  5. Assemble and Bake: Pour the cinnamon sauce evenly over the apple dumplings. Then, pour the soda around the edges of the dish, avoiding the tops of the dumplings. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and bubbly.
  6. Serve: Let the dumplings cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of ice cream for an extra treat!
